When the light returns and the cold are freezing the skin the people of Kiruna celebrate the snow and the winter with a Snow Festival.
Kiruna Snow Festival will go off January 23-27, 2019 and as always the festival is full of actions for all ages. The main festival day will take place on Saturday January 26.
During the Snow festival you will be able to take part in the rich culture Kiruna has to offer, everything from snow-sculpture to painting exhibition to kid’s playgrounds designed by snow. The Snow festival is organized once a year in central Kiruna by the music organization Tusen Toner. The major heart of the festival is Kiruna International Snow Sculpture Competition, which attract artist from all over the world. Skiing and ice skating competitions, and reindeer and dog sled races fill these five days at the end of January, and parties and feast are held in giant igloos after dark, but the snow sculpting contest is the main event.
